The best sheet for name badge labels
Stick-on name badges for conferences, meetups and volunteer events, printed from the attendee list. Avery 5395 puts 8 labels on one US Letter sheet in 2 columns and 4 rows, which is why it is the default for name badge labels here.
Each label is 3 3/8″ (85.7 mm) wide and 2 1/3″ (59.3 mm) tall, with a 9/16″ (14.3 mm) top margin and a 11/16″ (17.5 mm) side margin on the sheet. The longest line of the first sample row, “Harbor Health”, has 13 characters; at 10 pt one label holds about 13 lines of 46 characters, at 8 pt about 16 lines of 58.
Compared with 5395: Avery 8395 has the same label area and the same count per sheet and Avery 5164 has 1.7× the label area and 6 instead of 8 labels per sheet. Pick the larger labels when your attendees need bigger type, the smaller ones when you print many.

Tips for printing name badge labels
- Put the first name in the largest type: people read badges from about a metre away.
- Print a few blank badges with only the event band for walk-ins and handwritten names.
- Sort the attendee list by last name so the check-in table can find badges quickly.
- Avoid putting badges on delicate fabrics like silk or suede; adhesive can leave marks.

Frequently asked questions
What size are name badge labels?
LabelGrid's default for name badge labels is 2 1/3″ × 3 3/8″ (Avery 5395, 8 per sheet). Other sheets that fit: Avery 8395 at 2 1/3″ × 3 3/8″ (same size, different code) and Avery 5164 at 3 1/3″ × 4″.
How many name badge labels fit on one sheet?
8 on Avery 5395, 8 on Avery 8395 and 6 on Avery 5164. For 200 attendees at 1 label each you need 25 sheets of Avery 5395.
Can I print name badge labels from a spreadsheet list?
Yes. Switch the designer to merge mode, paste your rows with a header (Name and Company) and each row becomes one label; placeholders like {Name} pull the values in. The free version prints one full sheet per list.
Why do my name badge labels print out of line?
Check the print dialog first: “fit to page” or any scale other than 100 % shrinks the sheet, and the labels drift. Choose “Actual size” or 100 % scale, the right paper (US Letter) and no “fit to page”. If every label is off by the same amount, use the printer offset in the designer to nudge the whole sheet.
