About LabelGrid

LabelGrid is a free label maker that starts from the sheet in your printer tray: 905 sheet layouts from 43 brands, each drawn to scale, with a PDF that prints at 100% scale.

Why LabelGrid exists

Printing a sheet of labels should take a minute, yet it usually means hunting for a template, fighting a word processor table and wasting a sheet when the last row drifts off the bottom edge. Some online designers also ask you to sign in first: Avery's own 5160 template page says you are prompted to sign in when you click Start Designing.

LabelGrid starts from the sheet instead. Every page already knows the exact geometry of one product code, shows it to scale and lets you type straight onto it. The free plan covers a full sheet of plain text labels, typed once or merged from a list; Pro is for people who print long lists again and again.

The site is static: pages are generated ahead of time and the tool runs entirely in your browser, which is why nothing you type is uploaded and why the core tool can stay free.

Where the sheet measurements come from

Every template page is generated from one dataset: the gLabels template database, an open collection of label sheet measurements maintained for the gLabels label program and published under the MIT licence. The build script reads its layout files, expresses every measurement in PostScript points (1/72 inch), checks that every label sits inside the paper and does not overlap its neighbour, and rejects rows that fail. Margins, gaps, Word settings, sheets-needed tables and the blank PDFs are then calculated from those numbers, and the same geometry code draws the live preview and the PDF, so the page and the download always agree.

  • 637 US Letter sheets and 266 A4 sheets get their own template page.
  • They fall into 485 distinct geometries: many codes share one layout, and every page lists its same-geometry codes.
  • 114 sheets, starting with the most-printed Avery codes, are checked against the label size and layout their maker publishes, and their pages say so. 83 rows were corrected after such checks and 12 sheets were added from published templates.
  • 52 sheets of round labels and 96 CD and DVD label layouts are drawn with their real shape, not as rectangles.
  • 20 entries are family placeholders (a base code that is not sold on its own) and get no page; 2 rows were rejected because their labels would leave the paper: Connect KF10647, Russian A3 5x9.

What is on the site

Your data stays on your device

The label maker is a script that runs in your browser. The names, addresses and lists you type or paste are laid out and turned into a PDF on your own computer or phone; they are never uploaded. The site counts anonymous page views to learn which templates are useful, and the privacy policy lists exactly what that includes.

Not affiliated with Avery or any label brand

LabelGrid is independent. Avery® and the other brand names and product codes on this site are trademarks of their owners and are used only to say which sheet a layout fits ("compatible with Avery® 5160"). No logos are used, and nothing here is endorsed by a label manufacturer. Always check the label size printed on your pack against the measurements on the template page, and print a test sheet on plain paper first.

How the site is funded

The free label maker is paid for by an optional one-time Pro upgrade for people who print long lists: unlimited merge rows, .xlsx files, barcodes, QR codes, serial numbers, logos, saved designs and a saved printer calibration. There are no display ads and no sponsored placements. The pricing page lists exactly what is free and what Pro adds.

Spotted a wrong measurement?

A template is only useful if it lines up. The contact page lists what to send about a sheet that prints out of line (the sheet code, the page address and what you measured) and shows the address as soon as one is published. A correction in the data fixes the template, the blank PDF and every page that uses that sheet.
