The best sheet for warning labels
Simple caution labels for boxes, equipment and home use: fragile, hot, do not unplug, keep out of reach. Avery 5163 puts 10 labels on one US Letter sheet in 2 columns and 5 rows, which is why it is the default for warning labels here.
Each label is 4″ (101.6 mm) wide and 2″ (50.8 mm) tall, with a 1/2″ (12.7 mm) top margin and a 0.162″ (4.1 mm) side margin on the sheet. The longest line of the preset, “Handle with care”, has 16 characters; at 10 pt one label holds about 10 lines of 54 characters, at 8 pt about 13 lines of 67.
Compared with 5163: Avery 5160 has 33 % of the label area and 30 instead of 10 labels per sheet and Avery 5164 has 1.7× the label area and 6 instead of 10 labels per sheet. Pick the larger labels when your labels need bigger type, the smaller ones when you print many.

Tips for printing warning labels
- Home-printed labels are fine for everyday caution notes, but regulated hazard labels (chemicals, shipping dangerous goods) must follow official formats.
- Bold capitals and a red frame are recognised from a distance.
- Put “This side up” labels on at least two sides of a box.
- Laminate warning labels in workshops where they get dirty.
How many sheets for your labels

Frequently asked questions
What size are warning labels?
LabelGrid's default for warning labels is 2″ × 4″ (Avery 5163, 10 per sheet). Other sheets that fit: Avery 5160 at 1″ × 2 5/8″ and Avery 5164 at 3 1/3″ × 4″.
How many warning labels fit on one sheet?
10 on Avery 5163, 30 on Avery 5160 and 6 on Avery 5164. For 100 labels at 1 label each you need 10 sheets of Avery 5163.
Can every label on the sheet be different?
Yes. The preset repeats one design on every label, which suits warning labels. For different text on each label, switch to merge mode and paste one row per label; the free version prints one full sheet per list.
Why do my warning labels print out of line?
Check the print dialog first: “fit to page” or any scale other than 100 % shrinks the sheet, and the labels drift. Choose “Actual size” or 100 % scale, the right paper (US Letter) and no “fit to page”. If every label is off by the same amount, use the printer offset in the designer to nudge the whole sheet.
