The best sheet for save the date labels

Labels for save-the-date cards and magnets: guest addresses on the envelope, or a small date label on the card itself. Avery 5160 puts 30 labels on one US Letter sheet in 3 columns and 10 rows, which is why it is the default for save the date labels here.

Each label is 2 5/8″ (66.7 mm) wide and 1″ (25.4 mm) tall, with a 1/2″ (12.7 mm) top margin and a 3/16″ (4.8 mm) side margin on the sheet. The longest line of the preset, “Save the date”, has 13 characters; at 10 pt one label holds about 5 lines of 36 characters, at 8 pt about 6 lines of 45.

Compared with 5160: Avery 5162 has 2× the label area and 14 instead of 30 labels per sheet and Avery 5293 has the same label area and 24 instead of 30 labels per sheet. Pick the larger labels when your save-the-dates need bigger type, the smaller ones when you print many.

Tips for printing save the date labels

Postcard save-the-dates need the address on the right half: a 1″ × 2 5/8″ label fits without covering the stamp area.
Use the same guest spreadsheet you will use for the invitations; set it up once with separate columns.
Round seal stickers with initials are a cheap way to make plain envelopes look designed.
Write dates in an unambiguous format for international guests (“12 June 2027”).

What size are save the date labels?

How many save the date labels fit on one sheet?

30 on Avery 5160, 14 on Avery 5162 and 24 on Avery 5293. For 150 save-the-dates at 1 label each you need 5 sheets of Avery 5160.

Can every label on the sheet be different?

Yes. The preset repeats one design on every label, which suits save the date labels. For different text on each label, switch to merge mode and paste one row per label; the free version prints one full sheet per list.

Why do my save the date labels print out of line?

Check the print dialog first: “fit to page” or any scale other than 100 % shrinks the sheet, and the labels drift. Choose “Actual size” or 100 % scale, the right paper (US Letter) and no “fit to page”. If every label is off by the same amount, use the printer offset in the designer to nudge the whole sheet.
