The best sheet for return address labels
Your own name and address, printed many times on small labels for the corner of every envelope you send. Avery 5167 puts 80 labels on one US Letter sheet in 4 columns and 20 rows, which is why it is the default for return address labels here.
Each label is 1 3/4″ (44.4 mm) wide and 1/2″ (12.7 mm) tall, with a 1/2″ (12.7 mm) top margin and a 0.3″ (7.6 mm) side margin on the sheet. The longest line of the preset, “Springfield, IL 62704”, has 21 characters; at 10 pt one label holds about 2 lines of 23 characters, at 8 pt about 2 lines of 29.
Compared with 5167: Avery 8195 has 1.3× the label area and 60 instead of 80 labels per sheet, Avery 5160 has 3× the label area and 30 instead of 80 labels per sheet and Avery L7651 has 1.4× the label area and 65 instead of 80 labels per sheet. Pick the larger labels when your envelopes need bigger type, the smaller ones when you print many.

Tips for printing return address labels
- Return labels are the one job where the same design repeats on every label; type it once and the tool fills the sheet.
- On a 1/2″ tall label three lines need about 6-7 pt type; avoid more than about 28 characters per line.
- Postal services read the return address from the top-left of the envelope front; decorative back-flap placement is fine for personal mail.
- Print a few sheets at once: return labels last a long time and the setup is the same.
How many sheets for your envelopes
One label per envelope. For 240 envelopes on Avery 5167 you need 3 sheets, with no label left over.

Frequently asked questions
What size are return address labels?
LabelGrid's default for return address labels is 1/2″ × 1 3/4″ (Avery 5167, 80 per sheet). Other sheets that fit: Avery 8195 at 0.66″ × 1 3/4″, Avery 5160 at 1″ × 2 5/8″ and Avery L7651 at 38.1 × 21.2 mm.
How many return address labels fit on one sheet?
80 on Avery 5167, 60 on Avery 8195, 30 on Avery 5160 and 65 on Avery L7651. For 500 envelopes at 1 label each you need 7 sheets of Avery 5167.
Can every label on the sheet be different?
Yes. The preset repeats one design on every label, which suits return address labels. For different text on each label, switch to merge mode and paste one row per label; the free version prints one full sheet per list.
Why do my return address labels print out of line?
Check the print dialog first: “fit to page” or any scale other than 100 % shrinks the sheet, and the labels drift. Choose “Actual size” or 100 % scale, the right paper (US Letter) and no “fit to page”. If every label is off by the same amount, use the printer offset in the designer to nudge the whole sheet.
