Printable mailing labels
For mailing labels, use Avery® 5160 or a compatible sheet: 1″ × 2 5/8″ labels, 30 per US Letter sheet. 30 per sheet keeps a big mailing to the fewest sheets. The designer below is pre-filled with a clean, plain design; edit it or paste a list, then download a PDF that prints at 100 %.

The best sheet for mailing labels
Labels for bulk mailings: newsletters, invoices, flyers and club mail, printed one per row from a member or customer list. Avery 5160 puts 30 labels on one US Letter sheet in 3 columns and 10 rows, which is why it is the default for mailing labels here.
Each label is 2 5/8″ (66.7 mm) wide and 1″ (25.4 mm) tall, with a 1/2″ (12.7 mm) top margin and a 3/16″ (4.8 mm) side margin on the sheet. The longest line of the first sample row, “Lancaster, PA 17601”, has 19 characters; at 10 pt one label holds about 5 lines of 36 characters, at 8 pt about 6 lines of 45.
Compared with 5160: Avery 5161 has 1.5× the label area and 20 instead of 30 labels per sheet, Avery 5162 has 2× the label area and 14 instead of 30 labels per sheet and Avery 5163 has 3× the label area and 10 instead of 30 labels per sheet. Pick the larger labels when your pieces of mail need bigger type, the smaller ones when you print many.

Tips for printing mailing labels
- For hundreds of rows, sort the spreadsheet by ZIP code first; it makes bundling easier if you use presorted mail rates.
- Remove blank rows before pasting; the tool skips empty rows but they make counting harder.
- Use four lines only when needed: three-line labels can use a larger font.
- Free LabelGrid prints one full sheet per list; Pro (one-time) removes the row limit for big mailings.
How many sheets for your pieces of mail
One label each. For 500 pieces of mail on Avery 5160 you need 17 sheets and 10 labels stay blank for next time (use the start position to skip them later).

Frequently asked questions
What size are mailing labels?
LabelGrid's default for mailing labels is 1″ × 2 5/8″ (Avery 5160, 30 per sheet). Other sheets that fit: Avery 5161 at 1″ × 4″, Avery 5162 at 1 1/3″ × 4″ and Avery 5163 at 2″ × 4″.
How many mailing labels fit on one sheet?
30 on Avery 5160, 20 on Avery 5161, 14 on Avery 5162 and 10 on Avery 5163. For 1000 pieces of mail at 1 label each you need 34 sheets of Avery 5160.
Can I print mailing labels from a spreadsheet list?
Yes. Switch the designer to merge mode, paste your rows with a header (Name, Company, Street, City, State and ZIP) and each row becomes one label; placeholders like {Name} pull the values in. The free version prints one full sheet per list.
Why do my mailing labels print out of line?
Check the print dialog first: “fit to page” or any scale other than 100 % shrinks the sheet, and the labels drift. Choose “Actual size” or 100 % scale, the right paper (US Letter) and no “fit to page”. If every label is off by the same amount, use the printer offset in the designer to nudge the whole sheet.
