The best sheet for spice jar labels

Small labels for spice jars and tins: one spice per label, readable from the top of a drawer or the front of a rack. OnlineLabels OL1025 puts 63 labels on one US Letter sheet in 7 columns and 9 rows, which is why it is the default for spice jar labels here.

Each label is 1″ (25.4 mm) wide and 1″ (25.4 mm) tall (round), with a 1/2″ (12.7 mm) top margin and a 3/8″ (9.5 mm) side margin on the sheet. The longest line of the first sample row, “Cumin”, has 5 characters; at 10 pt one label holds about 3 lines of 8 characters, at 8 pt about 4 lines of 10.

Compared with OL1025: Avery 5293 has 2.6× the label area and 24 instead of 63 labels per sheet, Avery 5167 has 88 % of the label area and 80 instead of 63 labels per sheet and Avery 5160 has 2.6× the label area and 30 instead of 63 labels per sheet. Pick the larger labels when your jars need bigger type, the smaller ones when you print many.

Tips for printing spice jar labels

  • Drawer storage needs lid labels; rack storage needs front labels. Many people print both from the same list.
  • Paste the full spice list once in merge mode: one label per spice, in alphabetical order.
  • Add the purchase month on a second line: ground spices lose flavour over time and the date tells you what to replace.
  • Keep the font large and the text one or two words; 1″ rounds hold about 10-12 characters per line at a readable size.

How many sheets for your jars

One label per jar. For 40 jars on OnlineLabels OL1025 you need 1 sheet and 23 labels stay blank for next time (use the start position to skip them later).

Frequently asked questions

What size are spice jar labels?

LabelGrid's default for spice jar labels is 1″ round (OnlineLabels OL1025, 63 per sheet). Other sheets that fit: Avery 5293 at 1 5/8″ round, Avery 5167 at 1/2″ × 1 3/4″ and Avery 5160 at 1″ × 2 5/8″.

How many spice jar labels fit on one sheet?

63 on OnlineLabels OL1025, 24 on Avery 5293, 80 on Avery 5167 and 30 on Avery 5160. For 63 jars at 1 label each you need 1 sheet of OnlineLabels OL1025.

Can I print spice jar labels from a spreadsheet list?

Yes. Switch the designer to merge mode, paste your rows with a header (Spice) and each row becomes one label; placeholders like {Spice} pull the values in. The free version prints one full sheet per list.

Why do my spice jar labels print out of line?

Check the print dialog first: “fit to page” or any scale other than 100 % shrinks the sheet, and the labels drift. Choose “Actual size” or 100 % scale, the right paper (US Letter) and no “fit to page”. If every label is off by the same amount, use the printer offset in the designer to nudge the whole sheet.
