The best sheet for holiday gift labels
Labels for homemade holiday gifts: cookie tins, jars of jam, candles and gift bags, with the giver's name and what is inside. Avery 5294 puts 12 labels on one US Letter sheet in 3 columns and 4 rows, which is why it is the default for holiday gift labels here.
Each label is 2 1/2″ (63.5 mm) wide and 2 1/2″ (63.5 mm) tall (round), with a 7/16″ (11.1 mm) top margin and a 1/4″ (6.4 mm) side margin on the sheet. The longest line of the preset, “from the Patels · 2026”, has 22 characters; at 10 pt one label holds about 9 lines of 23 characters, at 8 pt about 12 lines of 29.
Compared with 5294: Avery 5163 has 1.3× the label area and 10 instead of 12 labels per sheet, OnlineLabels OL3016 has 64 % of the label area and the same count per sheet and Avery 5160 has 42 % of the label area and 30 instead of 12 labels per sheet. Pick the larger labels when your gifts need bigger type, the smaller ones when you print many.

Tips for printing holiday gift labels
- For food gifts, add the date and the main allergens on a second label on the back; the front label can stay decorative.
- Round labels on lids look best with two or three centred lines; put long text on a rectangular side label.
- Candle labels near the wick area should stay on the jar side, never on the lid surface that heats up.
- Print a full sheet at once and keep spares for the gifts you forgot.
Print plan: holiday gift labels for 25 to 150 gifts
For 100 gifts you need 9 sheets of 5294, with 8 labels left for next time. None of these runs fills whole 5294 sheets; 12, 24 or 36 labels would. The plain-paper test costs no label sheet, so print it first.
| Gifts | 5294 sheets (12/sheet) | Labels left over | Or 5163 sheets (10/sheet) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 25 gifts | 3 | 11 | 3 |
| 50 gifts | 5 | 10 | 5 |
| 100 gifts | 9 | 8 | 10 |
| 150 gifts | 13 | 6 | 15 |
When to print holiday gift labels
Christmas Day falls on Friday, December 25, 2026, 62 days after this page's data date (October 24, 2026). Labels print in minutes, so the timing that matters is when your gifts have to be ready.
Print one test sheet on plain paper first: it shows scaling or alignment problems before they cost a label sheet.

Frequently asked questions
What size are holiday gift labels?
LabelGrid's default for holiday gift labels is 2 1/2″ round (Avery 5294, 12 per sheet). Other sheets that fit: Avery 5163 at 2″ × 4″, OnlineLabels OL3016 at 2″ × 2″ and Avery 5160 at 1″ × 2 5/8″.
How many holiday gift labels fit on one sheet?
12 on Avery 5294, 10 on Avery 5163, 12 on OnlineLabels OL3016 and 30 on Avery 5160. For 48 gifts at 1 label each you need 4 sheets of Avery 5294.
Can every label on the sheet be different?
Yes. The preset repeats one design on every label, which suits holiday gift labels. For different text on each label, switch to merge mode and paste one row per label; the free version prints one full sheet per list.
When is Christmas Day?
The next Christmas Day after this page's data date (October 24, 2026) is Friday, December 25, 2026. Print a test sheet a few days before you need the gifts, and check your postal service for mailing dates if you send them.
Why do my holiday gift labels print out of line?
Check the print dialog first: “fit to page” or any scale other than 100 % shrinks the sheet, and the labels drift. Choose “Actual size” or 100 % scale, the right paper (US Letter) and no “fit to page”. If every label is off by the same amount, use the printer offset in the designer to nudge the whole sheet.
