Avery L7163 in Google Docs, step by step

  1. Fastest: use an aligned PDF

Google Docs has no built-in Avery L7163 layout. Type your text or paste your rows in the designer at the top of this page and download a PDF already aligned to the 14 positions of the L7163 sheet; open it and print at 100 %.

  2. Set up the page in Docs

To build the L7163 layout in Docs, open a blank document and go to File › Page setup: paper size A4, margins top 15.2 mm, bottom 0, left 4.7 mm, right 4.7 mm. The bottom margin stays at 0 on purpose: the 7 table rows already place every label, and the empty paragraph that always follows a table then fits in the 15.2 mm below the last row instead of starting a blank second page.

  3. Insert a 3 × 7 table

Use Insert › Table and draw the L7163 grid as 3 columns by 7 rows (2 label columns plus 1 narrow gap columns).

  4. Size the cells exactly

Select the L7163 table and open Format › Table › Table properties (called Table options in newer versions). Column widths: 99.1 mm, 2.5 mm, 99.1 mm. Minimum row height: 38.1 mm for every row. Set cell padding to 0 and the table border to 0 pt so each L7163 cell is exactly one label.

  5. Type within the label

Keep each cell to about 8 lines at 10 pt; Docs grows a row when text overflows and every L7163 label below it shifts down, and the last row can then push onto a second page.

  6. Lists from Google Sheets

Docs cannot merge a spreadsheet into the L7163 table by itself; label add-ons exist in the Google Workspace Marketplace, or paste the rows from Sheets into LabelGrid's merge mode above.

  7. Print L7163 at 100 %

Use File › Print or download a PDF, set A4 paper and 100 % scale (not “fit to page”), and check a plain-paper test: the first L7163 row starts 15.2 mm from the top.

Worked example: 49 labels on L7163

One Docs table holds 14 Avery L7163 labels, so 49 labels need the finished table copied onto 4 pages; the last page uses 7 of its 14 cells. Paste a page break before each copy so every table starts at the top margin of 15.2 mm.

In the LabelGrid designer the same 49 rows go into merge mode; the free version prints the first 14 (one full L7163 sheet) and Pro removes the limit. To reuse a part-used sheet, set the start position to the first empty label.

When L7163 labels print out of line in Google Docs

  • A second, empty page appears after the L7163 table: Docs keeps a paragraph after every table and it cannot be deleted. Check File › Page setup: with the bottom margin at 0 (step 2) that paragraph fits in the 15.2 mm below the last row; with a 15.2 mm bottom margin it does not.
  • Columns look right on screen but the L7163 labels print narrow: Docs may round widths; re-enter 99.1 mm for each label column and check the page margins again.
  • In Google Docs, L7163 labels that drift more the lower they are mean the page was scaled: at 97 % row 7, 281.9 mm from the top, lands about 8.5 mm off. Print at 100 %.

14 labels of 99.1 mm × 38.1 mm on A4, 2 across and 7 down. In Docs: page margins 15.2 mm top and 4.7 mm left, columns of 99.1 mm.
