The best sheet for CD and DVD labels

Disc labels for CDs and DVDs: mixtapes, backups, band demos and archive discs. Avery 5824 puts 2 labels on one US Letter sheet in 1 column and 2 rows, which is why it is the default for CD and DVD labels here.

Each label is 4 5/8″ (117.5 mm) wide and 4 5/8″ (117.5 mm) tall, with a 1/2″ (12.7 mm) top margin and a 2″ (50.8 mm) side margin on the sheet. The longest line of the preset, “Summer mix 2026”, has 15 characters; at 10 pt one label holds about 18 lines of 43 characters, at 8 pt about 22 lines of 54.

Compared with 5824: Avery L6015 has the same label area and the same count per sheet. Pick the larger labels when your discs need bigger type, the smaller ones when you print many.

Tips for printing CD and DVD labels

Apply disc labels with a centring tool or by aligning the hole; an off-centre label can wobble in the drive.
Keep text inside the middle ring: the edge and the hub area are the least readable.
Archive discs need the date and contents; you will not remember in five years.
Never stick labels on discs used in slot-loading car players if the manufacturer advises against it.

What size are CD and DVD labels?

LabelGrid's default for CD and DVD labels is 4 5/8″ round (Avery 5824, 2 per sheet). Other sheets that fit: Avery L6015 at 117 mm round.

How many CD and DVD labels fit on one sheet?

2 on Avery 5824 and 2 on Avery L6015. For 50 discs at 1 label each you need 25 sheets of Avery 5824.

Can every label on the sheet be different?

Yes. The preset repeats one design on every label, which suits CD and DVD labels. For different text on each label, switch to merge mode and paste one row per label; the free version prints one full sheet per list.

Why do my CD and DVD labels print out of line?

Check the print dialog first: “fit to page” or any scale other than 100 % shrinks the sheet, and the labels drift. Choose “Actual size” or 100 % scale, the right paper (US Letter) and no “fit to page”. If every label is off by the same amount, use the printer offset in the designer to nudge the whole sheet.
